Current Projects

The first goal of BCEP was to create a K-2 program, realized in the The Bridge School Cooperative Elementary.  But as a community-based organization, we are working on many projects.  All of our efforts are focused on instilling a passion for learning in our children and establishing a strong sense of community among the families that participate.  Most of our programs will focus on children - creating unique learning environments and opportunities to inspire and educate each child as an individual.  We will also have opportunities for parent education, volunteerism and participation in community events.

The Bridge School, K-2 Cooperative Elementary
Our first inspiration for BCEP is the creation of a cooperative elementary school serving children ages 5-8 (kindergarten - second grade).  This program is in the final stages of development, and the ongoing work we are doing to establish this school relies heavily on what we have learned from Garden School and our Home Based Pilot School.  Unlike the Pilot School, the Bridge School will not be home-based. This program will have full-time teaching staff and rely on parents to help with classroom activities and manage the day-to-day business of the school.  We've recently just published our Bridge School Website, please view it here to learn more about our new K-2 program.

The Bridge School will open its doors for class on Sept. 6th and it will be located in the Highline area.  A dedicated web-site for this school is coming soon.  The Bridge School recently hosted a public meeting where we presented information, answered questions and even provided some fresh baked goods prepared by our Pilot Program students.  Please see our Bridge School FAQ page to find out some of the questions and answers from that meeting.  You can also send any inquiries to our email at info@buriencoopeducation.org.

2011 Family Garden Camp

Garden School is a summer program of BCEP where children work on math, science, art and reading and writing projects all centered around a large community garden planted and maintained by the students.  The 2010 summer session of Garden School was BCEP's first cooperative education program and has served as an example of the types of programs we continue to develop.

For the 2011 session of Garden School, we have new instructors, new families and even a new location.  Our experience in the first year of Garden School inspired us to include younger siblings and parents in our classes and the Garden School was re-made into the 2011 Family Garden Camp.  For more information about this summer program, in session now, please see our Family Garden Camp blog.
